CCS Scores for a Cause
CCS colleagues have swapped the workplace for the football pitch recently, with teams from our Andover headquarters and Nottingham office taking part in two Business Fives charity five-a-side football tournaments.
The events combine friendly competition, team building and networking with an important fundraising focus. Each participating company contributes through its tournament entry fee, while teams are also encouraged to raise money for a charity of their own choice.
For CCS, that charity was Charlie’s Star, with our teams raising a fantastic £395 to support its work.
Supporting Charlie’s Star
Charlie’s Star was established in 2019 to support bereaved families from the South West of England who have lost a child under the age of 19.
The charity provides fully funded seven-day respite breaks in Cornwall, giving families an opportunity to spend valuable time together away from some of the pressures of everyday life. Each break, including travel, accommodation, food and local excursions, costs the charity around £2,000.
The charity was created in memory of Charlie Burns, who died suddenly in 2011 shortly after his 10th birthday, and continues his legacy by helping other families facing the devastating loss of a child.
Andover takes on Southampton
Our first Business Fives tournament of 2026 saw a team from our Andover headquarters head to Southampton.
The tournament began with randomly drawn groups before teams were separated into three competitions for the second stage: the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League based on their results.
The CCS team did enough in the opening stage to progress into the top-tier Champions League competition.
Competition certainly stepped up from there, but the team continued to battle hard before producing one of their closest games of the day in the knockout stages, narrowly losing 4-3 to Morgan Sindall in the Champions League quarter-final.
More importantly, the Southampton tournament brought together businesses from across the region and raised an impressive £2,800 for charity.
Nottingham brings home some silverware
Next up was our Nottingham office, with another CCS team taking to the pitch at the Nottingham Business Fives event.
After a challenging opening group and second-stage campaign, the Nottingham team found themselves competing in the Europa Conference League.
And this time there was a trophy at the end of it!
CCS made it all the way to the Europa Conference League Final, where the team saved its best performance for when it mattered most, recording an emphatic 8-3 victory over Cygnet Health to finish the tournament as Europa Conference League winners.
The Nottingham event was also a huge fundraising success, with the participating businesses collectively raising £4,266.
More than just football
Across the two tournaments, an excellent £7,066 was raised collectively by the businesses taking part in Southampton and Nottingham, alongside the £395 raised by CCS for Charlie’s Star.
For our colleagues, the tournaments were also a great opportunity to spend time together away from the usual working environment, build relationships as a team and meet people from businesses across the regions in which we work.
There may have been a few tired legs the following morning, but both tournaments proved to be fantastic events, and Nottingham even returned home with some silverware to show for it.
