Lorna Embarks on an Inspiring Trek

Lorna Warmington, a Senior Business Partner here at CCS and one of the company’s longest-serving staff members is preparing for an incredible journey to Machu Picchu. Driven by a commitment to raising funds for Dementia UK, Lorna will embark on the challenge of a lifetime, trekking the legendary Inca Trail alongside her close friend, Cheryl Morgan.

This extraordinary adventure is no small feat. The trek will span approximately four and a half days, with daily hikes ranging from 6 to 12 hours. One of the most demanding parts of the journey will involve climbing a high-altitude peak before descending into the breathtaking ruins of Machu Picchu. However, much of the trekking will take place during daylight hours, which is a welcome change from her previous trek up Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania.

To prepare for this physical and mental challenge, Lorna has committed to a rigorous 16-week training program. Starting with one-hour walks, the program gradually builds in intensity and every fourth week is designated as a rest period to allow for recovery. Despite a busy schedule, Lorna recently kickstarted her training just a few days after returning from a skiing trip.

Alongside the training plan, Lorna and Cheryl will also add Pilates and swimming to their preparations.

The trek itself will be organised by Discover Adventure (discoveradventure.com), a company specialising in guided expeditions. After two flights to get from England to their starting point in Cusco, Peru, the route follows the historic Inca Trail, offering stunning views and access to significant landmarks along the way. The group will camp for three nights, a more manageable setup compared to Lorna’s previous expeditions, which included six nights of camping.

Lorna’s motivation for this trek goes beyond personal achievement. By taking on this challenge, she aims to raise vital funds for Dementia UK, a charity close to her heart. With every step, Lorna hopes to make a difference in the lives of those affected by dementia and their families. “Dementia is a horrible and cruel disease that sadly took my mum.” She shared.

The trip and expedition are 100% self-funded and all money raised will be going to Dementia UK.

Lorna’s dedication and determination are a testament to her character and a source of inspiration to her colleagues at CCS and beyond. We wish Lorna and Cheryl the best of luck on their trek and applaud their efforts to support such an important cause.

Lorna jets off to Peru on April 26th, and if she is able to get any images or video back to us at CCS, we’ll report on her progress. It’s a long shot though, so we expect it will more likely be a highlights article when she has completed her challenge and returned to CCS HQ in Andover.

Edit 23/04/25 - Training Update

Lorna has updated us on how training is going just before she departs for Peru.

“Hello everyone, and a great big THANK YOU to everyone who has donated to Mum’s page for Dementia UK.

This weekend has been the last big walking weekend of our training. Cheryl and I have completed the last 2 stages of the Sarsen Way from Upavon to Amesbury on Friday and then Amesbury to Salisbury and back yesterday, roughly 36 miles in total. We had walked the first half last year from Swindon to Marlborough to Upavon.

We walked hundreds of miles in all weathers, though about 80% better conditions than the training Dec 23 / Jan 24 for Kilimanjaro!!

We’re always struck by the number of miles you can cover by just putting 1 foot in front of the other, and in awe of the beautiful countryside that surrounds us on this beautiful island. Couldn’t recommend it enough. Getting out for a little walk just brightens your day, no matter what the weather. Mum and Dad always walked every day, they both loved it and understood the benefits both physically and mentally.

The trip to the Inca Trail and Machu Picchu seems to have suddenly appeared. Cheryl and I have totally self-funded it, so if you do have anything to spare, it all goes directly to Dementia UK.”
