Donated Seeds Cause A Buzz For Primary School

Young Students Excited To Receive Wildflower Seeds

Senior Resident Liaison Officer, Tina Harvey from CCS, visited Plaistow and Kirdford Primary School alongside Helen Dexter from Stonewater. They were warmly welcomed by the school staff, who introduced them to the Gardening Club—an initiative that has been running for several years, led by a dedicated volunteer who is a parent of one of the students.

When the Gardening Club was called over to meet Tina and Helen, an impressively large group of pupils eagerly made their way towards them. The children confidently shared their experiences, excitedly talking about everything they had been working on. Last year, they had successfully grown a variety of vegetables and enjoyed the reward of eating their own produce.

Tina then presented the children with a gift bag, and as they unwrapped its contents, they were delighted to discover a bounty of wildflower seeds in small packets.

She explained that, in addition to adding vibrant colour to their school grounds, the flowers would attract a wide range of bees and other insects. The children were thrilled to learn that by planting these wildflowers, they would be making a meaningful contribution to their local environment, providing a vital habitat for pollinators.

The Gardening Club has also received a previous donation of £250 from CCS, which they are excited to invest in their school garden this spring. Throughout the visit, Tina and Helen were inspired by the children's enthusiasm and their anticipation for a new season of growing.
